Driehoek, The Netherlands – August 04, 2019 – The Jumping de Driehoek – CSI Ommen 3* was visited by more than 20,000 spectators were treated to a home-grown winner for the fourth year in a row.
Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) and Beauville Z claimed the first prize of 15,000 euros after winning the €60,000 Grand Prix of Het Vechtdal CSI 3*, presented by Handelshuis Schuttert.
It was a boost just before the European Championship where Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) will start in a few weeks, even if that is with another horse.
“That is always good for yourself. Proof that you are doing well. If it’s weeks or months always just not succeeding, it is also not obvious that suddenly it will succeed at the European Championship ”, laughs Maikel van der Vleuten, who has taken part in several laps of honor lately.

With the nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Bustique x Jumpy des Fontaines), he worked carefully towards the Grand Prix. “He was at the Global Champions Tour at week in Berlin. He was already in the rhythm, but on Friday I competed him in the 1.45m. A little lower so that he could jump around a little easier. Today, he had to believe more about it, but now it felt easy too. The last month and a half, he really made a big step. Really a good tuber, which we still enjoy experience.”
With Beauville Z, Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) now has five Grand Prix show jumpers, a luxury he had never known before. Thanks to the sponsorship of fashion brand Massimo Dutti from the Spanish horse lover Marta Ortega.
Course designer Henk Linders had set out a selective 1.55m course with his team, of which only two riders remained clear before the drag break. Eventually, four more managed to qualify for it.“It was really a very nice three-star Grand Prix without bulky things in it. Scherprechter was the board for which the horses did not have much respect and the pink double jump behind. It was just cleverly built, “Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) analyzes the main class, in which he finished third in 2015.
The Ommen audience saw how he surpassed the ambitious Belgian Pieter Clemens (BEL) and Icarus (Querlybet Hero x Skippy II), who finished second after two penalty-free efforts, the second one in 37.53 seconds during the tiebreaker.
Patrick Lemmen (NED) finished nicely third on Ideal (by Andiamo x Carinjo) backed by a clean scorecard and final time of 39.70 seconds.
