Šamorin, Slovakia – August 04, 2019 – Tiffany Foster (CAN) earned a commanding win aboard Brighton in the €93.300 Grand Prix CSI 4*, presented by Energochemica, on Sunday, August 4 during the third and final week of the X-Bionic® Summer Tour.

In her first grand prix appearance this year at X-Bionic® Sphere, Foster came, saw, and conquered in impressive style in Šamorín. “He’s just the coolest horse,” she said of Brighton, a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood (Contendro x Quick Star). “He really seems to know what his job is and he really tries to miss the poles—he also loves the crowd!” Foster added, turning to thank Šamorín’s gallery of enthusiastic spectators, which included a surprise appearance by Hollywood actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Under blue skies and a bright, summer sun, course designer Pier Francesco Bazzocchi of Italy’s looping, 1.60m first round track proved challenging for a number of combinations in the field of 33, with only four clears in total. The top eight riders were invited back to compete in the jump-off, where Foster and the Artisan Farms LLC & Torrey Pines Stables-owned gelding, last to return in the order, became the fastest of three double-clear performances of the day.

The top four, four-fault scores in the first round led off, with Slovakian rider Jan Cigan Jun. (SVK) and Alex Duffy (IRL) both adding an additional four faults to their total, stopping the clock in a rare tie at 41.70 seconds to share sixth-place honors. Laurent Goffinet (FRA) and Atome des Etisses, clear in the first round, dropped an unfortunate rail in the second to take fifth.

Meanwhile, Andres Azcarraga (MEX) and Contendros of Mexico began Round 2 on four faults but went clear in the jump-off on a fast 38.28 seconds, moving up the leaderboard into fourth.

Midway through the jump-off order, Filippo Marco Bologni (ITA) and Sedik Milano Quilazio (Quidam de Revel x Calato) became the first double-clear of the day, setting the bar at 44.02 seconds, which eventually would earn them bronze honors.

The lead was quickly taken by countryman Matteo Leonardi (ITA) on Zypern III (Casall x Coriano), who took a gamble at the final fence to secure a time of 40.74. The door was then open for Foster, who began her round with an effective slice at the first jump, finding a smooth, speedy track and making use of Brighton’s impressive stride to dash through the timers on a time of 38.22 seconds.

“This is my first show back in Europe,” said an elated Foster, who has been stationed at Spruce Meadows in Alberta, Canada since early June. The two-time Canadian Olympian has been paired with Brighton since 2013, earning previous CSI5* wins together in Spruce Meadows and during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

“It feels amazing [to win], and especially here—this facility is amazing and you really feel likeit’s a big deal. There was a big crowd here today, which was really nice, to have all these people come out,” Foster continued. “I think [this is] a great start to my European tour!”
