Wellington, Florida, USA – January 25, 2019 – Competition resumed at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) on Friday morning after heavy rain forced organizers to postpone much of the first round and the jump-off of yesterday’s feature FEI class.
The inclement weather did not affect Conor Swail (IRL) and GK Coco Chanel’s performance as the duo claimed top honors in the $36,000 Equinimity WEF Challenge Cup – Round 3, the qualifier for ‘Saturday Night Lights’ Grand Prix CSI 3* during the third week of competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival. The Irishman and Vanessa Mannix’s 11-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding (Clarimo x Lerano 2) dashed for the cash in the jump-off, registering a time of 41.851 seconds after having no penalties attributed to them.
Daniel Bedoya (BOL) and Quattro (Quasimodo Z x Celano) were the only other combination with a clean scorecard, securing second place in 42.569 seconds.
Fabio Leivas da Costa (BRA) and Tosca de L’Esques (Cardento x Apache d’Adriers) posted the fastest jump-off effort among the five combinations who participated in the tiebreaker, but their time of 39.197 seconds came at the expense of one rail down for a total of four penalty-points and bronze honors.
