In the lead-up to Sunday’s $204,000 CSI 4*-W Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ New York during the American Gold Cup CSI 4*-W, McLain Ward’s (USA) beloved and legendary partner, Rothchild, owned by Sagamore Farms, was retired in a special ceremony honoring his incredible career with Ward, including winning individual gold and team bronze for Team USA at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Ward and his team took to the Grand Prix Field to share some words on the renowned Warmblood gelding and unveiled a video showcasing highlights from Rothchild’s decorated career. Throughout the week, spectators also had the chance to sign a retirement card as well as take photos with a cutout of Rothchild. Both of these were also available during the autograph session with the grand prix athletes, including Ward, following Sunday’s competition on the Grand Prix Field.
The seventeen-year-old chestnut Belgian Sport Horse gelding (Artos x Elegant De L’Ile) formed a winning partnership with the American, highlighted by many important victories including:

The gelding recorded a total of 34 FEI-level wins in 219 starts, a remarkable achievement matched only by a few horses in the story of our noble sport.
The duo also came close to a medal in the 2014 FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Caen, France finishing in a very good fifth place.
