After winning the opening five-star competition yesterday and then following up with a third place-finish in the Grand Prix qualifier presented by Carlsberg, Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) continued his winning ways by taking the top honours in Friday’s 1.45m €24,700 Patache d’Aux Prize CSI 5*.
The world ranking class had 38 horse-and-rider combinations in it, and setting off as number six in the ring Van der Vleuten took the lead with a time of 57.71 seconds aboard the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Dana Blue (Mr. Blue x Hemmingway). No one could catch the Dutch rider, who now leads the way on the CSI 5* Leading Rider standings.
Eugenio Garza Perez (MEX) on Bariano (Jetset-D x Skippy) were the closest ones, finishing second flawlessly in 59.09 seconds.
Third place was claimed by Denis Lynch (IRL) on RMF Fairview (Alimo x unknown) after a penalty-free run in 59.25 seconds.
