The Time is Right for Tanimara Macari & Quenala T in the $32,000 Florida Coast Equipment Two-Phase CSI 3*

Wellington, United States โ€“ April 16, 2026 โ€“ Mexicoโ€™s Tanimara Maria Macari Carrillo (MEX) and Quenala T highlighted the start of international competition during Week 3 of the Wellington International Spring Series, presented byย Florida Coast Equipment,ย by winning theย $32,000 Florida Coast Equipment Two-Phase CSI 3* Thursday on the grass derby field at Equestrian Village.ย

Bought by Rupert Winkelmann Sportpferde e. K. as a five-year-old mare in Germany, Quenala T (Qualito x Coronado)โ€”now 10โ€”is one of several mounts in Macariโ€™s string ready to step up to consistent international competition with Nations Cup aspirations in the plan for this summer.ย

Chloe Reid (USA) & Chelsea 179

From a competitive opening field of 46 over course designer Oscar Soberonโ€™s (USA) two-phase track, Macari posted the fastest time in the speed phase of 31.37 seconds. Only fractions off the pace in 31.90 seconds was Chloe Reid (USA) riding Live Oak Plantationโ€™s Chelsea 179, an 11-year-old Oldenburg (Cador 5 x Laudabilis) mare.

Alex Matz (USA) & Clarimo

Closing out Thursdayโ€™s podium was USAโ€™s Alex Matz (USA) aboard Clarimo, a 9-year-old Zangersheide (Comilfo Plus Z x Polydor) gelding co-owned by Matzโ€™s parents, Dorothy and Michael. The pair stopped the clock at 32.69 seconds.

โ€œThe second half of the course invited you to run and take some leave-outs, and we took our chance,โ€ said the 26-year-old who rides alongside her partner Rupert Winkelman at Eickendorf Horses.ย

โ€œWeโ€™ve had a great seasonโ€”maybe a bit slower than others, but we have horses that are just now turning 10, so we have been taking it slow and then start pushing it about now,โ€ explained Macari, who represented her home nation of Mexico in the FEI Nations Cup during WEF. โ€œThese spring shows serve as a great way for us to step them up and get ready for five-stars and hopefully Nations Cup appearances this summer.โ€

While hopes are high, Macari admits her partnership with Quenala T took work to develop, saying, โ€œSheโ€™s a true mare and has a mind of her own, so we had to compromise on a few things. I like to say weโ€™ve become friends now.

โ€œShe has a very athletic body, so everything comes really easily for her,โ€ continued Macari on the mareโ€™s natural ability. โ€œWhen you start jumping bigger, everything needs to come together. Even though she was built to jump, some aspects of rideability were missing, which made her weak. But sheโ€™s so athletic, she never really needed the muscle.โ€

Macari recalled with a laugh, โ€œShe couldnโ€™t understand why we kept making her do the dressage work, but she has come around, and now she accepts it, which is important because sheโ€™s happier as well. It was just about time and patience with herโ€”sheโ€™s a fighter in the ring, and I know sheโ€™s always on my side.โ€

The Spring Series spans five weeks and runs through May 10, featuring hunter, jumper and equitation competition at Wellington International, home of the famed Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Learn more about the Spring Seriesย HERE.
