
Hong Kong, China – January 30, 2026 – The 2026 Longines International Horse Show CSI 5* got underway on Friday at the Asia-World Expo and a battle between 3 veteran riders, representing powerhouse nations of the noble sport, decided the winner of the €28,200 Longines Welcome Stakes CSI 5*.
Seven out of the eight combinations that had qualified for the tiebreaker took part in the decisive round. In the end, it was John Whitaker (GBR), Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) and Roger-Yves Bost (FRA) who went head-to-head for the gold and glory.
In the end, it was Dieter who got the upper hand, delivering blazing performance aboard the 14-year-old grey Holsteiner gelding (Cachas x Lasino) Cous Cous 3, leaving all the poles up before completing the course in 35.78 seconds.
One of the legends of the sport, John Whitaker (GBR) and Equine America Unick du Francport had to settle for second place, doing so in 35.94 seconds.
Known as one of the speedsters of the sport, Roger-Yves Bost (FRA) and Ballerine du Vilpion were pretty quick too, but not enough to overcome the two combinations mentioned above. They earned bronze honors in 37.20 seconds.
