Daniel Coyle Completes Hat-Trick! Farrel Propels Irishman to Victory in $31,100 Winning Round CSI 5*

Mill Spring, United States โ€“ October 18, 2025 โ€“ Adding a third FEI win to his week at Tryon International, Daniel Coyle (IRL) left Tryon Stadium on Saturday afternoon with the blue ribbon. With equine teammate Farrel (VDL Cardento 933 x Argelith Stakkato) rising to the occasion, the 2010 Dutch Warmblood gelding and Coyle bested a field of 27 competitors to claim the $31,100 Winning Round CSI 5* victory. Securing a double clear performance, Coyle and Farrel finished with a jump off time of 48.47 seconds.

With three FEI wins on three different mounts at Tryon International, Daniel Coyle credited his consistency to surrounding himself with โ€œgood people, good horses, and trying to ride the best I can. Keep it very simple.โ€ย

โ€œI have a huge history with Farrel,โ€ Coyle said of his longtime partner. โ€œAs a nine-year-old, we had won two World Cup [events] together.โ€

Andrew Bourns (IRL) & Perte Totale de Res Nova

Aboard Lesley Martinโ€™s Perte Totale de Res Nova (Comme Il Faut x Verdi), Andrew Bourns (IRL) also captured a double clear effort with the 2015 Belgian Warmblood stallion, marking 50.14 seconds in the jump off.

Nicolette Hirt (USA) & Kaphira

Third place, with a jump off time of 51.02, was awarded to Nicolette Hirt (USA), riding Kaphira (Broere VDL Corland x Clearway), the 2015 Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Chatwood Farms LLC.ย

Coyle revealed that watching his competitors ride the Peter Grant and Nicholas Granat- designed track beforehand helped him build a winning strategy. โ€œI was second to last to go, which is always a huge advantage. [My team] gave me the best plan, I tried to ride it my best, and of course, Farrel delivered again!โ€ย ย

Though the team has enjoyed numerous wins together, Coyle and Farrelโ€™s partnership has seen challenges as well. Coyle shared that in 2020, Farrel developed a stifle cyst that took him out of competition for some time. Since then, the team has built back up to top form. โ€œ[Farrel] has come from nothing, again, and heโ€™s already back at the 5* level,โ€ Coyle said. โ€œHeโ€™s the horse of a lifetime.โ€
