Rafael Miranda Finds the “Method” to Sucess in the Hermès Classic CSI 4*-W at São Paulo

In showjumping, to win at the high level, one must follow a rigorous training method and use intuition to make quick decisions and adjust. In Rafael Miranda‘s (BRA) case, that proved to true but in a different way, riding Intuição Método to claim a major victory on the penultimate day of the Longines São Paulo Horse Show – Indoor Jumping of Brazil CSI 4*-W.

As the first to go amongst 48 combinations, Rodrigo Ullmann de Lima (BRA) managed to leave all the poles up but couldn’t quite complete Guilherme Jorge’s first-round course within the time allowed of 80 seconds. One of the young rising stars of the sport in Brazil, Eduardo Coelho Barbara (BRA) cleared all the 1.45m fences towards a flawless performance with RSF Princesa.

Next up, Felipe Ferreira Figueiredo (BRA) and CEHJUR Balenny put themselves in contention for the win for the second evening in a row, this time backed by another foot-perfect round that gave fans what they were cheering for, a jump-off!

Paulo Miranda (BRA) & Caroli M3

Paulo Miranda (BRA) and Caroli M3 secured at least three riders in the decisive round. The next fault-free round came only 3 rides later. Guilherme Foroni (BRA) and Cornet Prince JMen were in the hunt too.

As the twelfth to go in the order, Rafael “Tata” Miranda (BRA) and Intuição Método joined the party of five finalists so far.

Judging by the 5 clean performances out of the first 12 in the beginning of the class, spectators might have thought that the course would be relatively “easy” for many of the remaining entries, but they were proven wrong. It took a long time for the feat to be duplicated. Gabriel Kayan Magalhães (BRA) and QH Princescornet do Santo Antônio were the only other ones to do so. To the surprise of even experts, the finalists had already been defined, six would be the final number.

Jump-off

Having the disadvantage of going first, Eduardo Coelho Barbara (BRA) was fast but not too much with RSF Princesa, bringing down the penultimate obstacle.

Felipe Ferreira Figueiredo (BRA) & CEHJUR Balenny

After seeing victory slip away from his grasp the night before with the same mount, Felipe Ferreira Figueiredo (BRA) was more conservative aboard CEHJUR Balenny, setting the benchmark at 37.47 seconds. In the end, a wise decision that would be worth bronze honors.

Their lead was short lived because the next contenders, Paulo Miranda (BRA) and Caroli M3, were technical and faster, lowering the time to beat to 36.58 seconds, putting pressure on the remaining three.

Rafael Miranda (BRA) & Intuição Método

Rafael Miranda (BRA) and Intuição Método, the 14-year-old Brazilian Sport Horse (BH) mare, owned by Ricardo Fachinni, were not affected by the spotlight, going fast from the start, very fast while still keeping all the poles up before one final push to the last obstacle and across the finish line in 35.87 seconds… the lead was theirs!

Two more to go…. Unfortunately, Guilherme Foroni (BRA) and Cornet Prince JMen had an unlucky fault. Despite their valiant effort, Gabriel Kayan Magalhães (BRA) and QH Princescornet do Santo Antônio‘s clean round with turned out to be good for fourth place, due to their time of 37.96 seconds, handing the win to Rafael Miranda (BRA).
