Mill Spring, North Carolina, USA – July 17, 2024 – Kristen VanderVeen (USA) came out on top in the $32,000 Two-Phase CSI 3* on Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili (Berlin x Darco). VanderVeen and the 2005 Belgian Warmblood soared through the jump off with 25.28 seconds on the clock.

Samuel Parot (CHI), aboard David Guetta (Zento x Vigaro), the 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding, placed second out of 27 trips with a time of 25.52 seconds.

With a time of 25.72 seconds, Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Otto BH (Norton D’ Eole x Toulon), the 2012 Zangersheide stallion, collected a third place finish.

VanderVeen and the 2005 Belgian Warmblood stallion have made many appearances at Tryon International over the years. “Frosty is pretty famous, especially here in Tryon. He’s been my partner for eight or nine years. It’s great to have him here – he’s 19 now, and he’s still winning. He’s won the last three ranking classes he’s jumped,” VanderVeen said. 

“I thought [the course] was a really nice opener, and pretty simple, which actually can be a little bit of a downfall for Frosty and I. If he gets a little bored, he gets casual about his jumping,” VanderVeen said of the Ken Krome course. “I tried to ride most of it like a speed round, and in the second half there weren’t any special inside turns you could do, which actually worked to my advantage because he has a huge stride. I was able to just leave out some strides and go fast,” VanderVeen detailed.
