
Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada —June 08, 2024 — Matthew Sampson (GBR) leapt to victory today in the $62,500 AON Cup CSI 5*, the only CSI5* event on day three of the The ‘Continental’, presented by Rolex at Spruce Meadows.
He and One Whisper beat yesterday’s top rider, Canadian Erynn Ballard (CAN) with Fave D’Authuit, by nearly half a second in the jump off, coming in at a clean 39.26 seconds compared to Ballard’s 39.62 on the 350m course, featuring 13 obstacles and 16 efforts.
Brazil’s Gabriel de Matos Machado (BRA) and Donner conquered third place in 39.81 seconds.

“This would be one of the best rings in the world,” a delighted Sampson told us. “Spruce Meadows is definitely one of my favourite places to come. It was nice to get a win so early in the Spruce Meadows season, it’s what we all come here to do, so it’s great. Especially with so many in the class and the competition being so strong.”
