Eduardo Álvarez Aznar Leads LGCT Championship Ahead of Home Turf Battle this Week

Madrid, Spain – May 15, 2024 – The Longines Global Champions Tour is in Spain week for its first stop in Europe of the 2024 calendar. Going into the LGCT of Madrid, the sensational Spaniard Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) leads the LGCT championship race ahead of the fifth stage of the tour in his home country.

Aboard his Selle Français gelding, Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot, Aznar has delivered a series of consistent results in the first quarter of the 2024 season to secure the pole position going into the Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid.

Going into this week’s stop in his home country, Aznar will be eager to deliver a stellar performance for the local crowd in Spain. Securing a podium finish in Madrid will be all the more meaningful for the Spanish rider with the 19 year old Rokfeller. Competing together on the tour since 2015, Aznar and Rokfeller are a unique example of what can come of such a strong bond between horse and rider.

An eighth place in Doha coupled with a fourth place at Miami Beach and third-place in Mexico City has propelled the Spaniard to the top.

The two will be on the hunt for points in Madrid as Aznar hopes to maintain his lead with his longtime partner. Aznar has said “Rockefeller is 19 and it is probably his last season, so it means a lot for me.” Going into the LGCT Grand Prix of Madrid, Aznar holds a five point lead over second place Max Kühner, with both riders set to compete next weekend in Madrid.

After the fourth stage of the season, Eduardo Alvarez Aznar (ESP) will lead the LGCT Championship going into his turf, he has a combined score of 97 points. Max Kuhner (AUT) is in second place on 92 points, while Julien Anquetin (FRA) has climbed to third place on 81 points. Michael Duffy (IRL) sits in fourth with 77.14 points and Andreas Schou (DEN) rounds out the top five in the race with 68 points.

Will Aznar be able to hold on to his lead on his home turf in Spain, or will a new leader emerge in the 2024 Longines Global Champions Tour Championship Standings?
