Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – February 11, 2024 – Currently, the number 32 in the Longines Ranking of the International Equestrian Federation and one of the most important British riders, Scott Brash (GBR) won the €105,675 Stephex Grand Prix CSI 4* on Sunday at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour CSI 4* & CSI 2*, an event sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Junta of Andalucía, through Tourism and Sports of Andalucia.
He did it with Hello Valentino, a ten-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding (Diamantino x Careful 28), owned by Lady Harris and Lady Kirkham.
“I think we jumped great. I’ve struggled a little with the handling… but he always gets his way because he has a lot of quality in his jumping and I’ve been working on that here on the Sunshine Tour. To improve the handling, I wouldn’t say it was perfect yet, but he jumped super and had a great round to win,” Scott explained after his win, highlighting that he is just trying to “encourage him and give him confidence.” “I want it to be a 5* Grand Prix horse and to do so I want to work a lot on handling here. “The Sunshine Tour is excellent for that, the horse can get a lot of experience, we can ride them on many different tracks and in all kinds of circumstances: grass, sand, sun and rain,” he added.
They won a tiebreaker with a total of nine participating combinations in which the winning duo stopped the timers under 37 seconds.
Silver honors was claimed by the Colombian Rene López Lizarazo (COL) with Driss de Kerglenn (Mylord Carthago*HN x CAP Kennedy*Bois Margot) while the third spot on the podium went to the German Kendra Claricia Brinkop (GER) with In Time (Biscayo x Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve).
Fourth was the Austrian Max Kühner with EIC Quantum Robin V (Carambole x Stakkato) and fifth was his compatriot Christoph Obernauer with Kleons Renegade.
