Amsterdam, The Netherlands – January 27, 2023 – Matthew Sampson (GBR) took his second victory with the 11-year-old mare MGH Candy Girl (by Sligo Candy Boy) at Jumping Amsterdam Saturday evening. In the €28,700 RAI Amsterdam Prize CSI 5*-W over 1.45m, the British rider rushed to victory as the last starter in a lightning-fast time of 61.43 seconds.
Jana Wargers (GER) led for a long time with the 12-year-old Chacco’s Lady 2 (by Chacco-Blue). In the end, she came second with a clear round in 63.02 seconds. Denis Lynch (IRL) finished third in the straight-ahead class with Cornets Iberio (by Cornet Obolensky). He came out of the finish line unscathed in 63.12 seconds.
Winner’s Mentality
”It’s fantastic to win this class. She has been super fast for two days, which is fantastic. I felt it could be faster and this time was enough. Candy Girl did her best and has a winner’s mentality. The audience was fantastic. I won a class in Mechelen and London and now two in Amsterdam. I am going to continue this. I have a good team of horses and owners who support me. Fingers crossed for tonight and tomorrow.”
Breeding Mare
Candy Girl is not only a sport horse, but also a broodmare. ”She has had a few foals via embryo transfer. Big Star, among others, I used.”
