Willem Greve & Grandorado TN Make Triumphant Return in the €56,800 Harry Wouters van den Oudenweijer Prize

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – January 28, 2023 – The 2024 Jumping Amsterdam is Willem Greve’s (NED) competition. On Friday evening, the rider from Markelo made a smashing impression with Highway TN in the Telegraaf Prize, Saturday night he repeated that trick by finishing second with Pretty Woman van’t Paradijs in the Grand Prix behind the unbeatable Julien Epaillard (FRA) and on Sunday, Greve won the €56,800 Harry Wouters van den Oudenweijer Prize CSI 5*-W with Grandorado TN.

Seven combinations made it through to the jump-off of this 1.50-course, including Marc Houtzager (NED) with Klasse EB and Frank Schuttert (NED) with Gream. With two riders still to go, Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) with Precious Dwerse Hagen was the only rider with a double zero behind his name.

Frank Schuttert (NED) made a very good attempt with Verdi son Gream, but a bad luck fault on the Telegraaf steeplechase kept him from victory.

Last Starter

Last starter Willem Greve (NED) did not ask the last of Grandorado TN, who is rebuilding towards the top of the sport after an injury. But the son of Eldorado has a great canter and made up the difference in the last long line with playful ease: 0 in 34 seconds, 0.37 seconds faster than Olivier Philippaerts.

‘Getting third would have been good too’

“I was not riding fast at all,” Willem Greve said after the award ceremony. “If I had come third it would have been fine with me too. It’s all about building up Grandorado now and Amsterdam is his first five-star competition again. He jumps and feels like his old self, that’s the most important thing. But he makes such big strides in that last line, that ran so easily at eight canter jumps, that I won it too.”

1958 Winner

And so the prize in memory of the first rider to win the 1958 Grand Prix of Amsterdam, Harry Wouters van den Oudenweyer, ended up in the hands of the man who can’t be wrong at Jumping Amsterdam 2024: Willem Greve.
