Casas Novas, La Coruña, Spain – November 30, 2023 – Last summer, Bertram Allen (IRL) won the Grand Prix A Coruña of the Longines Global Champions Tour. The Irish rider will dispute the winter edition with the objective of increasing the list of riders who win both Casas Novas Grand Prix, in summer and winter.
Along the 43 international events disputed in Casas Novas, between the summer and winter editions, only four riders know how it feels to win both Grand Prix.
Toni Hasman (GER) was the first of all. German rider won with “Cyrenaika 006” the winter Grand Prix of 2002, in summer the of 2003 he won again with “Camiraz B”.
Following him, Leopold Van Asten (NED), won both events in the same year and with the same horse, “VDL Groep Zidene”, “Heartbreaker´s” son.
Later, Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Sergio Álvarez Moya (ESP), entered in that list. The rider of Haras de la Bosquetterie, who arrives this year to CSI5*-W A Coruña on the Top-10 FEI ranking, achieved his first victory in 2006 winter CSI with “Icare du Manet”. Epaillard had to wait until 2015 to get on the list after winning the summer Grand Prix with “Cristallo A”.
The last rider of this double-winners list at Casas Novas was Sergio Álvarez Moya. The Olympic rider secured the first position in the 2012 winter Grand Prix with “Carlo 273” and in the 2021 summer with “Álamo”.
If Bertram Allem (IRL) wins next Sunday, he will enter in that double-winners list. The Irish rider arrives at CSI5*-W A Coruña after winning the Grand Prix CSI2* of Opglabbeek. He also won last summer the Grand Prix A Coruña of the Longines Global Champions Tour with “Pacino Amiro”, his horse for this weekend. His other option will be “Edison de Hus”.
