
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – October 22, 2023 – After winning the the $5,000,000 GNP Seguros Grand Prix CSI 5* at Otomí the previous day, Shane Sweetnam (IRL) closed out the week in grand fashion at Otomí Club Hípico, claiming the win with RR Combella in the MXN $2,500,000 GTO Prize CSI 5*.
The 1.50m class turned out to be a battle between a Belgian and two Irish riders. In the end, it was Shane who felt the “sweet taste” of victory aboard the 9-year-old bay mare (Cornet du Lys x Indoctro) by being the only one to register two clean performances among the 6 combinations who had qualified to the tiebreaker out of the original 36 pairs who competed in the first round.
Gregory Wathelet (BEL) and Nevados S were the fastest four-faulters amongst the five pairs who registered the same score in the jump-off, securing second place in 42.49 seconds while Jordan Coyle (IRL) and For Gold rounded out the top three in 44.32 seconds.
