Katie Laurie & McCaw MVNZ Master the Course and the Competition at Spruce Meadows

Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada – June 30, 2023 – The show jumping action started Friday morning on the North American Ring at Spruce Meadows with the $38,500 Grand Prix Qualifier CSI 2*. The competition was this week’s qualifier for last Sunday’s $80,000 West Canadian Cup Grand Prix CSI 2*, presented by WCD. Today, over 60 horse/rider combinations started the jump off competition hoping to make it to the winner’s circle or a minimum Sunday’s cut.

Twelve athletes passed all the first round tests and advanced to the jump off. Katie Laurie (AUS) has been on fire this week and aboard the grey McCaw MVNZ she picked up another victory this week posting the fastest clear round in the jump off with a time of 39.09 seconds.

However, victory was not easy for the Australian and the New Zealander Warmblood gelding (Corofino II x Cassini II) as the duo had Conor Swail (IRL) and Gamble right on their heels, the only difference being the ir final time of 39.35 seconds, a mark that was good enough for silver honors.

The difference between the latter two and the third-place finishers was the smallest possible. Amanda Derbyshire (GBR) and Wonder If were just one-hundredth of a second behind the latter two, scuring bronze honors in 39.36 seconds.
