
Wiesbaden, Germany – May 29, 2023 – Dutchman Marc Houtzager (NED) played the role of spoiler on Monday at the 2023 Longines PfingstTurnier – Wiesbaden CSI 4*. Riding Sterrehof’s Dante N.O.P., he triumphed in the €100,000 Grand Prix of Wiesbaden CSI 4*.
Despite going up against the home crowd, who were all cheerring for a German victory and 10 other combinations of the original 47 entries in the 1.60m contest, Houtzager was supremed aboard the 15-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood mare (Canturano x Phin-Phin), nipping his closest rival with a time of 38.97 seconds.
Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) and Cous Cous (Cachas / Lasino) came very close to giving the home crowd what the had wished for, finishing second by a blink of an eye, just four-hundredths of a second behind the winners.
The third-fastest clean performance of the tiebreaker belonged to a young rider for a third different nation. Just as they have performed together the past months, Max Wachman (IRL) and Kilkenny continued to amaze, rounding out the top in 43.64 seconds.
