Langley, Vancouver, British Columbia — May 25, 2023 — With the start of top-level show jumping less than 24 hours away, close to 150 top show jumping horses from across North America and beyond were presented for inspection Wednesday afternoon at Thunderbird Show Park.
MLSJ Canadian Premier week kicks off in earnest Thursday morning with CSI 2* and CSI 5* competitions running through Sunday afternoon. Riders representing ten countries, including Olympians Amy Millar, Tiffany Foster and Mario Deslauriers (Canada); Darragh Kenny and Shane Sweetnam (Ireland); Nayel Nassar (Egypt); and Kent Farrington (USA) are primed to compete.
Current Canadian Show Jumping Champion Ali Ramsay (Victoria, BC native now calling Toronto home) presented her horses in anticipation of a great week of competition at one of her favourite venues.
“I just love being here,” exclaimed Ramsay. “I love the West Coast and so it’s just really nice to be home. I grew up at this show and so it’s really cool to be back here—it’s worth the 45 hour drive that we make because the facility is so wonderful and everybody is just so friendly and welcoming.”
This year marks 50 years of equestrian events at tbird and the Tidball family has steadily improved the infrastructure at the facility over the past decade to become one of the premier events in the country.
“The footing is amazing here,” continued Ramsay. “I jumped out on the grass this morning and the ring was great. But honestly it’s also the hospitality here. They just make you feel so welcome. That just makes you happy to be here.”
