
Mannheim, Germany – May 11, 2023 –Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Con Quidam RB continue to shine under the spotlight at the biggest stages of the sport and that was the case last Tuesday as the dynamic duo closed out the German holiday winning the €85,450 Badenia Grand Prix of MVV CSIO 3* during the leg of the Longines EEF Series at the Maimarkt Turnier – Mannheim CSIO 3*.
The 1.60m jump-off challenge was highly contested as the likes of Peder Fredricson (SWE), Simone Blum (GER), David Will (GER), Eduardo Álvarez Aznar (ESP), Max Kuhner (AUT), Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER), Kevin Jochems (NED), Douglas Lindelow (SWE), Michael Jung (GER), amongst others, all being in it to win it.
In the end, it was Thijssen who came out on top with the 17-year-old bay Holsteiner stallion (Quinar Z x Cardino 5), going up against 7 other combinations out of the original 57 pairs entered. The winners blazed through the final course in flawless fashion, being timed in 41.65 seconds.
The current number-one ranked rider in the world, Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) came close to another win but despite matching the two clean scorecards of the winners, the Swede was just over one second slower on Dzara Dorchival (Qlassic Bois Margot x Raphael) tripping the jump-off timers in 42.68 seconds to secure the second-place on the podium.
The top three were completed by Stefan Engbers (GER) and Baju NRW (Balou du Rouet x Calido I) who earned their third-place after completing the tiebreaker with no penalties in 44.55 seconds.
