
San Miguel de Allende – April – 27, 2023 – Being the host nation of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup CSIO 5* this week, Mexico couldn’t have gotten off to a better start on the opening day at Otomí Club Hípico. Alberto Sanchez-Cozar (MEX) and Abril Hilcha Z gave the fervent crowd what they had been cheering for, claiming the win in the first major class of the event, the MXN $655,200 Visa Mexico Two-Phase Challenge CSIO 5*.
Thirty-six of the original ninety-three combinations who pranced and danced their way on the first section of the course set up by Anderson Lima (BRA), Benjamin Fernandez (MEX) and Domingo Martinez (MEX), clearing all the obstacles to advance to the decisive phase. In the end, it was Alberto and the 11-year-old bay mare (Chacco-Blue) who came out on top, doing in 32.06 seconds.
Mexican spectators were even more delighted after Javier Fernandez (MEX) and Iniesta TN (Starpower x Padinus) had secured the second spot on the podium, being clean all the way to the wire, crossing the final timers in 32.44 seconds.
In order for the day to be perfect, the host nation would have to sweep the top three positions and that’s exactly what happened. Eduardo Sanchez Navarro (MEX) and Werika were also brilliant, securing bronze honors in 32.57 seconds.
