
Vejer de La Frontera, Spain – March 17, 2023 – Billy Twomey (IRL) and the fast mare Lady Lou lit up to win the €27,400 La Equina Small Grand Prix CSI 4* on Saturday at the XIX Andalucía Sunshine Tour CSI 4*. This really exciting class was designed by Leopoldo Palacios Jugo from Venezuela.
The jump-off saw Billy riding a textbook round on this 14-year-old owned by the rider himself, and Sue Davis. The Irishman and the Westphalian mare (Lord Z x Caesario) were clean, stopping the timers in 32.51 seconds to win the feature class of the day.
They were just ahead of Matthew Sampson (GBR) and MGH Candy Girl’s (Sligo Candy Boy x Cruising) who were also double clear with a final time of 32.84 seconds. Despite being the first to go and taking an early lead in 1.45m challenge, Sampson was pipped at the post in the end by the very talented Irish rider. This left Matthew in second place on the 10-year-old, who is by ‘ and owned by Isabel Fox.
Coming in third was the Spanish rider, Sergio Alvarez Moya (ESP)and Hugo Simon’s Charisma HS (Uriko), registering no penalties in 34.17 seconds in the tiebreaker.
