Andres Azcarraga Torres Tops $1,170,000 GNP Seguros Grand Prix CSI 2* at Otomí Club Hípico

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – February 10, 2023 – For the second week in a row and this time held under the floodlights at the Otomí Club Hípico, the MXN $1,170,000 GNP Seguros Grand Prix CSI 2* was the main attraction, attracting some of the best combinations from Mexico and Latin America. In the end, Mexican spectators got what they had hoped for, a victory by the host nation as Andres Azcarraga Rivera Torres (MEX) and Contendros 2 triumphed.

A total of 43 combinations entered the ring for the 1.45m challenge but only six of them advanced to the tiebreaker. In the end it was Azcarraga who pulled all the aces up his sleeve aboard the 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion (Contendro I x Drosselklang II), completing their final round in 42.62 seconds to secure the win.

Francisco Leonforte (ARG) and Santa Rosa Yalta (Berlin x Balou du Rouet) matched the two clean performances of the eventual winners, earning silver honors by being just over a half second (43.03s) slower in the tiebreaker.

A testament of the number of talented international riders, three different nations were represented on the podium as Bernardo Naveillan Goycooleab (CHI) and Elqui Chili (Norton d’Eole x Laeken) conquered bronze honors in flawless fashion too while crossing the jump-off timers in 43.98 seconds.
