
Basel, Switzerland – January 12, 2023 – Victor Bettendorf (LUX) was the best rider on the opening day of the Longines CHI Classics Basel CSI 5*-W. After having already finished third in the Gönnerclub Pferdesport Basel CSI 5*-W with Simolo de La Roque Z, he guide Astuce de La Roque to victory in the CHF $30,300 Bemer Prize CSI 5*-W.
Once again, the 33-year-old rider from Luxembourg showed no sign of nervousness aboard the 13-year-old bay Selle Français mare (Kannan x Quick Star) going up against some of the biggest names of the sport, conquering the 1.45m speed course in flawless fashion before crossing the finish line triumphantly in 55.83 seconds.
The next two spots on the podium were claimed by France with Thomas Ryan (FRA) and Karmel van de Watering (Diamant de Semilly x Quick Star) being almost a full second slower to secure silver honors. Olivier Perreau (FRA) rounded out the top three with GL Events Dolce Deceuninck (Toulon / Cartier van de Heffinck), doing so in 57.28 seconds.
