Kyle King & Etalon Excel Again at Major League Show Jumping CSI 5* in Monterrey

Monterrey, Veracruz, Mexico – November 10, 2022 – Kyle King (USA) is making his mark on Monterrey, Mexico with two wins in as many weeks during Major League Show Jumping (MLSJ) at Club Hípico La Silla. He and Etalon claimed the MXN $1,103,000 Vector Empresas CSI 5* 1.50m for the second consecutive week in a row.

A former 3′ hunter turned grand prix mount, Etalon is a 13-year-old Royal Dutch Sport Horse / Dutch Warmblood gelding (Otangelo x Concorde), owned by Christine Maclean and Brent Therrien, that has solidly decided he belongs in the big ring. King and Etalon were the fastest of five double-clear rounds over courses built by Gregory Bodo (FRA) in a 13-horse jump-off.

Mexico dominated the rest of the podium for the home nation with Eugenio Garza (MEX) taking the runner-up honor riding Contago (Cornet Obolensky x Cassini II), doing so after two penalty-free performances, the second one in 40.08 seconds.

Carlos Hank Guerreiro (MEX) rounded out the top three aboard H5 Turbo Z (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve x Renville), matching the double clear of the previous two combinations while completing their jump-off round in 41.52 seconds.

I thought for the first round, it was substantially harder than last week. I always underestimate this horse, but he is just fantastic. I think I took off the favorites of the horse show [in the jump-off] because I didn’t get many claps when I went through the timers. I wasn’t sure what happened; I looked up and it was pretty silent. I’m super happy and I’m just so honored and lucky to have this guy as my partner.” ~Kyle King (USA)

Action at MLSJ Monterrey II resumes on Friday with the Afflux CSI5* 1.45m highlighting the schedule. Phase 8 of MLSJ continues at Club Hípico La Silla in Monterrey, Mex, through November 13. To view a complete schedule, click here.
