Kristen VanderVeen & Bull Run’s Prince of Peace Power to First in the $37,000 Horseware Ireland CSI 3*

Mill Spring, North Carolina, USA – October 20, 2022 – Kristen VanderVeen (USA) and Bull Run Jumpers’ Bull Run’s Prince of Peace rode to victory in the $37,000 Horseware Ireland Welcome Stake CSI 3* last Thursday during the fifth week of the Tryon Fall Series at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) .

Fourteen entries advanced to the jump-off of the 57 entries to contest the Michel Vaillancourt (USA) designed course, with one rider electing to withdraw from the second round. VanderVeen and the 2009 Holsteiner gelding, Bull Run’s Prince of Peace (Cardenio x Contender), proved to be the quickest by almost a second and a half, completing their jump–off in 37.01 seconds.

Luiz Francisco de Azevedo (BRA) & Collin

In second was Luiz Francisco de Azevedo (BRA) and Santa Cecelia Stables’ 2007 Dutch Warmblood gelding Collin (Colandro x Amethist) with a time of 38.43 seconds.

Kent Farrington (USA) & Greya

Rounding out the top three was Kent Farrington (USA) riding his own 2014 Oldenburg mare Greya (Colestus x Contender) with a time of 38.84 seconds.

“I thought this week’s track was a little bit bigger than last week. This is actually the first class my horse has jumped since this summer, so I was super pleased with him,” VanderVeen revealed. “The first round went well, and he jumped well. I thought [Michel Vaillancourt] did a nice job building the course. [For the jump-off] I tried to just pick up a gallop from the beginning and keep it. I took a little bit of a risk on the turns to the verticals. There were a few good slices. My horse has an amazing stride, so I could really run him at the last two jumps, and he stays really careful.”

Kristen Vanderveen (USA) & Bull Run’s Prince of Peace

VanderVeen and Bull Run’s Prince of Peace have been a winning pair for years:

“I’ve had him for probably five years now. He did World Cup Finals with me, so I know him pretty well. Today, after the first round, I just had such a good feeling on him and, knowing him, I thought ‘today’s the day.’ So my goal was to try and win this class.”

“I like everything about [TIEC],” VanderVeen gushed. “I like the rings, I like the management. They’ve been good to me here. The footing has always been good and typically the weather’s amazing. We’ve been pretty cold these last couple mornings, but fall is so nice here with the leaves and the colors and everything. We just love coming here.”
