
Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Alberta, Canada – September 07, 2022 – The first day of the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament was underway early this morning with the $37,500 Telus Cup CSI 3*. Twenty-two horse rider combinations were ready to step onto the International Ring to kick off the 2022 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ CSIO 5* & CSI 3*. The 435m track was designed by FEI Course Designer Anthony d’Ambrosio (USA) and athletes had to complete 11 obstacles featuring poles set at 1.45 meters (13 efforts) in under a time of 70 seconds to qualify for the jump off.
Nine horse/rider combinations passed all the test and advanced to the jump off. Matthew Sampson (GBR) riding Elisa BJX , a 10-year-old bay Oldenburg mare (Eldorado vd Zeshoek x Quilot) galloped across the finish in a time of 40.27s which could not be caught.
The host nation was represented on the podium as Tiffany Foster (CAN) rode Brighton (Contendro II x Quick Star) towards two penalty-free performances too, finishing second due to the final time of 41.32 seconds.
Rowan Willis (AUS) raced for bronze honors aboard Wellington Grey Goose (Corlensky x Grandira), doing so in 41.76 seconds.
