Matthew Sampson Supreme Again in the $75,000 Friends of the Meadows Grand Prix CSI 2* at Spruce Meadows

Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada – September 4, 2022 – The first competition on the North American Ring was the $75,000 Friends of the Meadows Grand Prix CSI 2*. Eight  athletes representing five nations passed the first round test with flying colours and proceeded to the jump off.

Matthew Sampson (GBR) has been one to watch all year at Spruce Meadows. Aboard Curraghgraigue Obos Flight, the pair laid down an incredibly quick clean round in the jump off in a time of 38.00 seconds flat. This marks Sampson’s fifth 2022 Spruce Meadows season win with the 10-year-old bay Irish Sport Horse mare (Obos Quality 004 x Errigal Flight).

Currently the tenth-ranked rider in the world, Kent Farrington (USA) and Electrique (Emerald van’T Ruytershof x Voltaire) came the closest to the winning mark, posting a clear round in a time of 38.34 seconds and finishing in second place.

Juan Jose Zendejas Salgado (MEX) and Tino La Chappele (Mylord Carthago*HN x Verdi) complete the podium, backed by a penalty-free jump-off performance in 38.80 seconds.
