
Spruce Meadows, Calgary, Canada – September 3, 2022 – The North American Ring featured two FEI competitions on Saturday of the Spruce Meadows ‘Continental’ CSI5*/2*, presented by Rolex. Familiar faces from the 2022 Spruce Meadows Summer Series were ready to take on the the track laid out by FEI Course Designer Anthony d’Ambrosio (USA) in the $137,000 Friends of the Meadows CSI 5* 1.50m jump off competition.
Four athletes representing four countries posted clean rides in round one, advancing to the jump off. Saturday’s victory belonged to Nayel Nassar (EGY) and his veteran championship mount Igor van de Wittemoere. The Egyptian and the 14-year-old bay Belgian Warmblood gelding (Cooper van de Heffinck x Orlando) were untouchable, posting a clean jumpoff ride in 37.54 seconds for the win.
Armando Trapote (ESP) and Tornado VS (Toulon x Contender) were the only other combination to register a clean scorecard, finishing second due to their final time of 39.64 seconds.
Natalie Dean (USA) and Chance Ste. Hermelle (Calvaro Z x Hemmingway) had one pole down in the tiebreaker, but were still able to secure bronze honors, completing their second performance in 41.68 seconds.
