Dublin, Ireland – August 17, 2022 – Irish riders dominated the first day of the 2022 Dublin Horse Show CSIO 5*, winning all three most importanted international classes at the RDS arena in Ballsbridge. The icing on the Irish cake was the victory by Paul O’Shea (IRL) and Skara Glen’s Machu Picchu in the feature contest, the €25,500 Sport Ireland Classic CSIO 5*.
A total of 43 combinations lined up for the 1.60m speed challenge but only 10 cleared all the 1.60m obstacles on the course. In the end, it was Paul who powered to victory aboard the 15-year-old Royal Dutch Sport Horse (Dutch Warmblood) gelding (Silverstone x Matterhorn), completing their impecable performance to leave the rest of the field in the dust with a time of 66.54 seconds.
In fact, the nearest combination at the top of the final standings was over two seconds slower, but was not conquered by any of O’Shea’s fast countrymen. Julien Gonin (FRA) and Valou du Lys (Calvaro F.C. x Galoubet A) tripped the timers in 68.67 seconds, a mark that would hold up for silver honors.
France managed to put two of their riders on the podium and a former number-one-ranked rider lived up to expectations. Kevin Staut (FRA) and Bond Jamesbond Hay (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan) were the third quickest, crossing the finish line in 70.35 seconds for third place.
