Ben Maher’s Explosion W Withdrawn from World Championships in Herning

London, England – August 05, 2022 – British Showjumping has issued a statement announcing that Ben Maher (GBR), in consultation with co-owners Charlotte Rossetter and Pamela Wright, have decided to withdraw their Olympic gold medallist Explosion W from the 2022 Agria FEI World Jumping Championships, one of the equestrian disciplines of the 2022 ECCO FEI World Championships. The Olympic Champion isn’t in shape enough to face the demanding task of jumping on consecutive days.

Here’s what Maher stated to British Showjumping:

“We’re incredibly disappointed to have to take this decision but Explosion W just isn’t quite at his peak fitness to take on the demands of this championship. He’s well in himself but jumping championship tracks over consecutive days takes a great deal of stamina. He’s simply too special a horse to risk so, with his welfare at the forefront of my mind I felt this was the best action.”

As a result, Ben will now compete with his direct reserve horse, Oakingham Stud’s Faltic HB, at the upcoming ECCO FEI World Championships in Herning, Denmark.

“Oakingham Stud’s Faltic HB has jumped fantastically this season, I’m really looking forward to being part of a very exciting British team in Herning,” added Maher.

The 2022 Agria FEI World Jumping Championships gets underway on Monday August 8, with the horse inspection and the first jumping action is on Wednesday, August 10.
