La Coruña, Spain – July 16, 2022 – What can one expect by having a horse called fame? Perhaps victories to fame and a lot of wine to celebrate them. That was exactly the case of Richard Howley last Saturday at A Coruña – Casas Novas CSI 4*. He rode fame to victory in the €26,000 Speed Challenge CSI 4* for the Marqués de Riscal Trophy.
A total of 30 combinations took part in the 1.45m challenge but it was the Irishman and the 12-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood stallion (Harley x Investment) who were the fastest among the twelve combinations that posted a clean performance, blazing across the finish line in 56.68 seconds for the victory.
It was a battle of two jockeys from the “Islands” as Jack Whitaker (GBR) and Scelentha (Hunter’s Scendix x Contendra 1) secured silver honors after being six-tenths of a second (57.28s) slower than the winning pair.
A testament of the international diversity, a third different nation claimed the remaining spot amongst the top three. Nicolas Deseuzes (FRA) dashed for bronze aboard Stella de Preuilly (Baloubet du Rouet x Apache d’Adriers), completing their round in 59.14 seconds.
