Valkenswaard, The Netherlands – July 15, 2022 – The start of Summer Event II at Tops International Arena could not have been better. Visitors enjoyed the great weather, brilliant atmosphere and fun entertainment. In a fantastic first day of great sport at Tops International Arena, Daniel Coyle (IRL) and Oak Grove’s Carlyle took top honours in the €25,500 Speed Challenge CSI 5*.
Jos Verlooy (BEL) was on flying form after winning the first CSI 5* class of the weekend earlier in the day and also securing third place in the fast and furious 1.50m speed class built by world-class course designer Uliano Vezzani (ITA).
Some of show jumping’s brightest stars were early out of the starting blocks but the poles fell in the early rounds, demonstrating the high level of difficulty of this exciting class. Scott Brash (GBR) couldn’t continue his good form from recent weeks having three fences down with Hello Shelby. Nayel Nassar (EGY) followed shortly after and similarly found challenges around the course, dropping two poles for 8 penalty-points.
There were 15 clears in total from some of the biggest names in the sport including Kevin Staut (FRA), Christian Ahlmann (GER) and Darragh Kenny (IRL) but no one could match the lightning-fastt time of Daniel Coyle (IRL) on the 14-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding (Casall x San Patrignano Corrado), blazing across the finish line in 66.66 seconds.
Coyle beat fellow Irishman Denis Lynch (IRL) on Rubens LS La Silla (HH Rebozo x Cash) by just nine hundreths of a second while Jos Verlooy and Luciano van het Geinsteinde (Quinn van de Heffinck x Air Jordan Z) rounded out the top three in 67.99 seconds.
