Monaco, Monte Carlo – July 02, 2022 – Besides the five-star action of both the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League (GCL) the Jumping International de Monte Carlo also featured CSI 2* classes throughout the week, concluding highlighted by the €25,000 Grand Prix of Monaco CSI 2* last Saturday.
In the end, it was the British flag which flew higher than the rest as Claire Beecroft (GBR) and Kandora cruised to victory in the 1.45m jump-off challenge. The first round course and the time allowed proved to be a tough ask for all but except two combinations. Beecroft chose to be conservative aboard the 12-year-old grey Belgian Warmblood mare (Berlin x Lantano 2) striving for a clean performance which would eventually earn them top honors.
Romain Potin (FRA) chose a different strategy aboard Coconte (Colman x Cornet’s Stern). As the only other duo to make it to the tiebreaker, the Frenchman decided to be much more aggressive going all out for the win. Unfortunately, the gamble didn’t pay of despite their much faster time of 34.03 seconds which came at the expense of one pole down.
Dries van der Linden (BEL) and Inero Z were the only other pair who left all the poles up in the first round, but their time of 72.40 seconds exceed the time allowed of 71 seconds flat, nevertheless securing them the third spot on the podium.
