Omaha, Nebraska – June 7, 2022 – Bernardo Costa Cabral (POR) has been selected as the course designer for the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final, one of three Finals to be held during the 2023 FEI World Cup™ Finals, April 4-8, 2023, at the CHI Health Center Omaha, site of the highly acclaimed 2017 FEI World Cup™ Finals, which hosted Jumping and Dressage.
The FEI World Cup™ Finals are annual indoor championships among the world’s best horses and athletes. Next year’s Finals in Omaha will feature the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final, FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final and FEI Vaulting World Cup™ Final. It will mark the first time the Vaulting Final will be held in North America.
“Bernardo Cabral is one of the most respected course designers in the sport of show jumping, and we have been honored to have him as a course designer at International Omaha in the past,” said Lisa Roskens, Chairman of the Omaha Equestrian Foundation (OEF), which is producing next year’s Finals. “His involvement will help ensure that the courses are worthy of the caliber of horses and riders participating in the Finals, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with him.”
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1975, Cabral, an FEI Level 4 course designer, started riding at the age of 9 and was always drawn to show jumping and course designing in particular. As a teenager, he assisted and learned from 2012 Olympic course designer Bob Ellis (GBR), and he continues to draw inspiration from those tracks today.
Cabral has designed for many international events including the European Championships, Austrian National Championship, and Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ North American League, and he has assisted with other major tracks including two Olympic Games (2008, 2012). He has served as course designer at the annual International Omaha and at events in Belgium, Canada, Dubai, Great Britain, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and his home country of Portugal.
“For me, it’s truly an honor to be recognized as a person who can do a champion-ship like the World Cup™ Final,” Cabral said. “I am truly grateful and very happy.”
