Luis Gerardo Castañeda Mercado Bookends the Podium in $1,105,000 GNP Seguros Grand Prix CSI 2* at Otomí

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – May 14, 2022 – The final week of FEI-action this spring took place last week at the Otomí Club Hípico and it was Luis Gerardo Castañeda Mercado who was the star at the venue. He teamed up with Untakable to win the MXN $1,105,000 GNP Seguros Grand Prix CSI 2*, moreover the talented rider also managed a third-place finish with his other mount, Dior.

Luis Gerardo and the10-year-old grey Zangersheide stallion (Untouchable x Pilot) were supreme in the 1.45m jump-off challenge by completing their second penalty-free performance in 43.52 seconds. The Mexican also rounded out the top three aboard Dior (Ensor vdh Pleville x Quidam de Revel), but this time he had a pole down for four penalty-points before completing their run in 46.48 seconds in the tiebreaker.

After winning the $555,000 Jump-off Challenge CSI 2* two days before, Nicolás Pizarro Suárez Martínez (MEX) and Oak Grove’s Enkidu (Ensor VDH Pleville x Quidam de Revel) came close to duplicating their feat, but this time the duo had to settle for second place after matching the winners’ clean jump-off effort despite being almost a full second slower, registering a final time of 44.48 seconds.
