A Senior Performance by François Mathy Jr. to Win €25,500 Special Two-Phase CSI 3* at Grimaud

Grimaud, France – May 12, 2022 – First to set off in the major class of the day at the Hubside Jumping Grimaud-Golfe de Saint-Tropez, the Belgian François Mathy Jr. (BEL), at the controls of Casanova de L’Herse, was not dethroned by the 25 other competitors at the start of this two-phase contest, presented by Celside. Despite two bends which left the rider “perplexed” (see his quote below), he beat Luxembourg’s Victor Bettendorf (LUX) on Mr. Tac, and Frenchman Emeric George (FRA), in saddle on Calisco de Terlong.

Winner’s Circle – François Mathy Jr. (BEL)

“I’m all the happier with this victory as I started in first position: it’s never the ideal position, you never know what will happen next. Casanova de L’Herse jumped very well, I was very satisfied. In the second phase, two turns left me perplexed: I thought I had lost time and I was convinced that I hadn’t won the race. So it’s a great surprise! But my horse is very fast and that makes all the difference. Casanova has finished his weekend: he will be rewarded for his great victory (laughs) and it is now up to his comrade Uno de La Roque to work. Tomorrow, he will jump the 1.50m challenge and Sunday’s Grand Prix.”
