Swedish Olympic Medallists – The Stars of the Hubside Jumping’s First CSI 5* of the Season

Grimaud, France – April 14, 2022 – After a gentle start last weekend, with the organisation of a CSI 3, things will really be getting underway at the 2022 Hubside Jumping today! The first CSI 5* of the season on the French Riviera will play host to the Olympic Swedish team gold medallists, regular participants in the event, who were already present last week. Free entry.

Last weekend, keen observers of world show jumping predicted that the Swedish riders would make a brilliant start at the first event of the 2022 Hubside Jumping Grimaud-Golfe de Saint-Tropez season, coinciding with the launch of the Hubside Spring Tour. And rightly so: in the CSI 3* Grand Prix, two of the five best combinations were Scandinavian, and as a bonus, the victory for one of them, Henrik von Eckermann (SWE), the World Number 2, with Glamour Girl. This week, for its first CSI 5* of the season, the highest level in the hierarchy of international shows, last summer’s Olympic team gold medallists may well dominate the HUBSIDE JUMPING once again: Malin Baryard-Johnsson (SWE), Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) and the best rider in the world, Peder Fredricson (SWE), will be competing on the French Riviera. The competition for these gold medallists, which was already very serious last week, will be even tougher. Austria’s Max Kühner (AUT) and Belgium’s Jérôme Guery (BEL), regulars at the show, World number 15 and World number 13 respectively, Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA), the sixth best rider in the world and Scotland’s Scott Brash, also Olympic team gold medallist in 2012, and the current World number 10, will also be competing.

Switzerland, another leading nation in European show jumping, will be represented by the greatly admired Steve Guerdat and by the young prodigy Bryan Balsiger (SUI), the winner of Sunday’s HUBSIDE SPRING TOUR CSI 2* Grand Prix. As for France, all the best riders will be travelling to Grimaud for this first CSI 5* of the season, to prepare for the French Championship which will be held next week in Fontainebleau. Mathieu Billot, Roger-Yves Bost, Grégory Cottard, Simon Delestre, Nicolas Delmotte, Julien Epaillard, Pénélope Leprévost, Edward Levy, Olivier Perreau, Olivier Robert, Philippe Rozier and Kevin Staut, the recent winner of the 5* Grand Prix at the Saut Hermès, in Paris, will be present among others.

Grimaud: on the road to Paris 2024

Since it was launched in 2019, the Hubside Jumping Grimaud-Golfe de Saint-Tropez has been offering optimal conditions to all the riders who come to compete in Var to prepare for the biggest international championships. And naturally, the next major competition which they all have in mind will be the 2024 Paris Olympics. An amazing event that riders are already training for today, and to which the

Hubside Jumping’s facilities and shows will greatly contribute. Sadri Fegaier, founder of the HUBSIDE JUMPING, explains: “All the partners of the HUBSIDE JUMPING, Hubside, Indexia Group, Hubside.Store and Celside Insurance, as well as my whole team, will be focusing on offering the best conditions to the riders over the next two years to prepare for the Paris Games. This will naturally involve putting a site at their disposal year-long, that meets Olympic standards, particularly in terms of the size of the ring, as well as offering a rich and varied sports programme, that will allow their future horses to progress, in 1, 2 and 3* shows, and to vary the types of courses, created by different course designers throughout the year. We truly love this sport, so we would like this preparation to be as efficient as possible for the riders and horses. None of this would be possible without the support of our loyal partners, whom I warmly thank.’ This week the French course designer Cédric Longis will oversee the track of the courses. Alongside the CSI 5, a CSI 1 and a CSI 2* will allow the European elite riders to get their horses to jump in at the deep end ! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!
