Maikel van der Vleuten & Kamara van’t Heike are the Fastest in €25,500 Two-Phase Challenge CSI 5* at Doha

Doha, Qatar – March 03, 2022 – Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) and Kamara van’t Heike turned on the afterburner to win the €25,500 Two-Phase Challenge CSI 5* yesterday on the opening day of the 2022 Longines Global Champions Tour of Doha CSI 5*.

A total of 44 combinations lined-up to take to the skies in the first 5* class at Al Shaqab Arena but it was the Dutchman and the 12-year-old grey Belgian Warmblood mare (Epleaser van’T Heike x Carthago) who flew the fastest in the second phase, clearing all the 1.45m obstacles flawlessly before crossing the finish line in 23.07 seconds.

Olivier Robert (FRA) and Vangog du Mas Garnier (Cornet Obolensky x Quidam de Revel) were not too far off the final mark set by the eventual winners, finishing second in 23.30 seconds.

One of the legends of the sport, John Whitaker (GBR) rode Sharid (Toulon x Vancouleurs) towards bronze honors, registering no penalties and completing the second section of the contest in 23.72 seconds.
