Christian Ahlmann & Querido VG Z – World Champions Amongst 5-Year-Olds

Lanaken, Belgium – September 26, 2021 – The first battle has been won, the first world champion for young horses is known! This morning it were the five-year-old horses who were allowed to kick off this Super Sunday of the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses and the level during this first final was immediately very high. Of the 55 combinations that obtained a ticket for this final earlier this week, 16 managed to clear the basic round and thus qualify for the jump-off. From the first to the last moment there was a nailbiting battle with eventually a dreamed winner for Stoeterij Zangersheide. It was Christian Ahlmann (GER) who became the new world champion with the BWP-bred and Zangersheide-approved stallion Querido VG Z, a breeding product of Aloïs van Gorp. Querido VG Z is a son of Ahlmann’s top stallion Dominator 2000 Z and this out of the mare Corsica VG Z (Chellano Z). Querido VG Z is also a half-brother of the grey stallion Leandro VG, who jumps at 1.50m level under the saddle of Jeroen De Winter. Ahlmann and Querido VG Z took the lead halfway throughout the jump-off with a clear round in 37.49 seconds and did not relinquish this leading position.

“I have not doubted the quality of Querido VG, although that does not mean that you know what you will get at the World Championships”, says new world champion Christian Ahlmann: “Querido has been busy during the breeding season. He is sought after by breeders, implying that he returned to the sport barely six weeks before the World Championship. I only rode him a few rounds before the World Championship. Fortunately, I know his potential, but that doesn’t mean he will become world champion or jump on the podium. The feeling was good from the first qualification on and Querido continued that line until the final plus jump-off. Querido always jumps in the same way: very clever and careful. In the jump-off you saw that he still bucks and plays between the obstacles, on the jumps he keeps his focus. I rode our round, that’s all I could do. I didn’t think about gold when I came out. The Irish came after me and they are always eager to win here”, smiles Ahlmann, who also thinks it is special that Queriodo is a son of Dominator 2000 Z: “it proves that in addition to being a phenomenal sport horse, he is also a phenomenal sire.”

Just like during the Belgian Championship for six-year-old horses, the silver went to the Belgian rider Arnaud Gaublomme with the BWP-bred gelding Quabriolet van het Bildeken, their self-bred son of Anakin van Schuttershof out of a Burggraaf mother. Gaublomme and Quabriolet van het Bildeken came second in the ring in the jump-off and set the tone with a clear round in 39.40 seconds.

The Dutch lady rider Nicole Eggens (NED) took the bronze with the KWPN-bred mare Loharna-P, a daughter of Carrera VDL and Burggraaf who was bred by B.J. Platzer and who comes out of the same dam as the 1.45m horses Biantha P (Numero Uno) and High Top (Namelus R). Eggens and Loharna-P also managed to ensure a clear round in the jump-off in a time of 40.99 seconds.

The Irish rider Jason Foley (IRL) with the Irish-bred Killossery Karma (Sied Livello x Cruising – B: F. &L. Glynn) and the British lady rider Emily Sage (GBR) with the Oldenburg mare Vogue TW (Vivant van de Heffinck x Conthargos – B: Gestüt Lewitz ) took fourth and fifth place respectively.
