Grimaud, France – September 23, 2021 – Lined up on the start with the World’s best, Daniel Deusser (GER), Kevin Staut (FRA), Mark McAuley (IRL) and Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (BRA), it was Great Britain’s Holly Smith (GBR) who finally came out on top in the big class on Thursday at the Hubside Jumping CSI 5* & 2*: the €30,000 Hubside Speed Challenge CSI 5*, with obstacles set at the maximum height of 1.50 meters. Piloting Denver, a horse with which she took part in the Tokyo Olympic Games, the rider made the most of the track offered by Cédric Longis (FRA), the course designer for this 2nd week of the Hubside Fall Tour.
With 15 jumping efforts including 3 doubles, Smith’s used all her experience and sense of rhythm to win against the 32 other competitors, guiding the 2008 bay Dutch Warmblood gelding (Albfuehren’s Memphis x Chico’s Boy) flawlessly across the finihs line ine 65.68 seconds.
Frenchman Grégory Cottard (FRA) and his grey mare, Cocaïne du Val (Mylord Carthago x Si Tu Viens), finished a close second, registering no penalties in 65.94 seconds.
Simon Delestre (FRA) claimed third place aboard Chesall Zimequest (Casall x Concerto II), posting the third fastest clear effort, timed in 66.18 seconds.

“I had the bad luck, or rather the luck as it turned out for me, to go at the beginning of the class,” joked the winner. “Denver has a lot of experience, he’s already taken part in Nations Cup classes, several Grand Prix and the Olympic Games, I tried to capitalise on that as much as possible. That’s what helped me to take more options and perhaps, be faster than the others. It’s my day!”
