Grimaud, France – September 17, 2021 – The Irish national flag stood above the rest last Friday last Friday at the Hubside Jumping CSI 5* & 2*. Already 3rd in the 1.50m the previous day, Irish rider Michael Duffy (IRL), again piloting Jeff Ten Halven, made his presence felt, dominating the major class of the day, the €65,000 Hubside Jump-off Challenge CSI 5*.
The Irishman and the 2009 bay Belgian Warmblood gelding (Toulon x Crown Z) were supreme in the 1.55m contest, riding towards an impressive clean jump-off effort in30.93 seconds for the victory.
The limelight was stolen from French rider Edward Levy (FRA) and his bouncy Rebecca LS (Rebozo La Silla x Cassini I), who came close to adding yet another win to their long list but this time had to settle for second due to their time of 31.65 seconds in the tiebreaker.
Behind them, Wilma Hellström (SWE) and Cicci Bjn claimed the third sport for Sweden, registering no penalties and a final time of 34.52 seconds.
Winner’s Circle – Michael Duffy (IRL)
“It’s great to win here in St Tropez! It’s an incredible competition, Sadri Fegaier and his team really do a tremendous job. The course was pretty big, but my horse didn’t seem at all worried by it and was really listening to me so I just thought, ‘let’s keep going like this’. I really enjoyed riding in the class. On Sunday I’m going to do Grand Prix and then we’re off to Barcelona for the CSIO 5*.”
