Calgary, Alberta, Canada – September 15, 2021 – The first day of theย Spruceย Meadowsย ‘North American’ Tournament CSI 5* began on Wednesday with a wet and rainy morning, though the cold and dampย weather didn’t have any effect on Israel’s Ashlee Bond (ISR).
A large entry of over thirty horse/rider combinations took to the field today for the $10,000 Trimac Cup CSI 5*, over a course designed by FEI course designer Peter Grant (CAN). The one round competition featured 11 obstacles (13 jumping efforts) and a time allowed of 75 seconds.ย
Bond and Contefina LVF navigated the track through the rain with ease, beginning one last week of September Series competitions atย Spruceย Meadowsย with a great trip. This is the first FEI 5* win for Bond during the September Series, though she’s been placing in the ribbons for quite a few of her competitions. Today’s win has to have Bond feeling excited for the remainder of the competition, with many more opportunities for her step into the winner’s circleย in the International Ring. The winning pair completed their penalty-free effort in 62.40 seconds for the victory.
It was a one-two for the ladies in the 1.45m speed challenge with Katie Laurie (AUS) and Cera Caruso being the closest ones to the eventual winners, going clean while being timed in 64.37 seconds.
Brian Morton (CAN) and Cadillac posted the third fastest clean effort of the day, securing bronze honors in 66.47 seconds.
