The 51st American Gold Cup, presented by CaptiveOne Advisors, Gets Underway in Traverse City

Traverse City, Michigan, USA – September 15, 2021 Week III of the Traverse City Tournament of Champions, the pinnacle event of the 12-week Traverse City Horse Shows series, kicked off Wednesday, September 15. The week will showcase another stop on the Major League Show Jumping CSI 5* tour, as well as the $230,000 American Gold Cup Grand Prix CSI 5*, presented by CaptiveOne Advisors. Athletes will have one final shot to battle it out for points toward the coveted $30,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Open Jumper Rider Bonus, which will be awarded at the conclusion of the American Gold Cup Grand Prix. The week will also play host to the inaugural Traverse City Hunter & Derby Finals, with over $275k in guaranteed prize money up for grabs for hunter athletes. 

The FEI jog, presented by Dutta Corp, took place Wednesday afternoon as a star-studded list of athletes prepared their horses for an exciting week of CSI5* and CSI2* competition. The line-up includes Margie Engle (USA), Shane Sweetnam (IRL), Georgina Bloomberg (USA), Beat Mandli (SUI), Wilhelm Genn (GER), Sam Walker (CAN), Sydney Shulman (ISR), Matt Williams (AUS), Vasco Flores (ARG) the current leader on the CaptiveOne Open Jumper Rider Bonus leaderboard Karl Cook (USA) and more. 

Competition during Week III of the Traverse City Tournament of Champions will continue Thursday, September 16, highlighting the $72,900 Premier Equestrian 1.50m CSI5*, which will feature the presentation of the Horse & Style Magazine Style of Riding Award. Major League Show Jumping (MLSJ) will get underway with the $1,000 MLSJ Two-Phase CSI5* and the $5,00 MLSJ 1.40m Two-Phase CSI 2*. As hunter athletes look ahead to the upcoming finals, the champion of the Staller Shows Performance Hunter 3’6’’ will be crowned Thursday.
