Leon Thijssen & Faithless MVDL Fly High to Win €100,000 Grand Prix Longines di Ascona CSI 4*

Ascona, Switzerland – September 12, 2021 – The 2021 edition of the Longines CSI Ascona concluded last Sunday with a victory by Leon Thijssen (NED) and Faithless MVDL in the feature class of the week, the €100,000 Grand Prix Longines di Ascona CSI 4*, presented by Banca Stato.

A total of 12 combinations mastered the Christian Wiegand‘s (GER) first round course within the time allowed, advancing to the jump-off of the 1.55m challenge. In the end, Thijssen (NED) and the 11-year-old grey Dutch Warmblood mare (Ukato x Clinton) secured the victory with their second penalty-free effort, blazing across the finish line in 41.63 seconds.

It was a fierce contest and the jump-off time of the two highest-placed combinations was very close. Barbara Schnieper (SUI) and Escoffier (Lord Z x Numero Z) saw victory slip away from them at the finish line, earning silver honors with a final time only seven-hundredths of a second slower than the eventual winners.

Gilles Thomas (BEL) and Konak (Nabab de Reve x Cash) also registered a clean scorecard. The duo secured the third spot on the podium after completing their second performance in 42.06 seconds.
