Ryan Genn & VDL Gerinus T Top $30,000 WEC Grand Prix at Wilmington

Wilmington, Ohio, USA – August 14, 2021 – Feature jumper action culminated this evening at the World Equestrian Center — Wilmington Summer Series Week 3 with athletes gathering in the Sanctuary Arena to contest the $10,000 WEC Futures Prix 1.30m and the $30,000 WEC Grand Prix 1.45.m.

Courses for the classes were designed by 2008 Beijing Olympics course designer, Steve Stephens (USA) of Stephens Equestrian Designs, Inc. Stephens brings more than forty years of experience in the equestrian industry to bear on his unique designs. 

A field of 14 horse and rider combinations contested the grand prix course, with eight pairs qualifying to advance to the jump off. Ultimately it was Ryan Genn (USA) in Lebanon, Ohio and Wilhelm Genn’s VDL Gerinus T (Arezzo VDL x Rosalina) who captured the win with a double clear effort and a blazing jump-off time of 39.380. Genn and the athletic 2011 Dutch Warmblood gelding have been frequent visitors to the winner’s circle at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington in 2021.

Kady Abrahamson (USA) & Maraca LS La Silla

Kady Abrahamson (USA) of Abrahamson Equestrian, LLC of Georgetown, Kentucky and Ocala, Florida, and Abrahamson Equestrian, LLC’s Maraca LS La Silla (Quintero La Silla x Marimba La Silla) earned a second place finish with a double clear performance and a jump-off time of 41.136 seconds.

Ryan Genn (USA) & Van Gogh

Ryan Genn (USA) also captured third place in tonight’s class aboard Wilhelm Genn’s Van Gogh (Valentino x Calina Z). Genn and the 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding delivered a double clear effort, stopping the jump-off clock at 43.189 for a third place finish.
