Holly Smith & Fruselli Fly to First in €25,400 Pearl Stakes CSI 5* at Windsor Castle

Windsor, Berkshire, England – July 02, 2021 – On a day that the British Olympic Show Jumping team was announced for the Tokyo Olympics, the close of the second day in the Castle Arena at the Royal Windsor Horse Show CHI 5* was a real showcase with all four of the confirmed squad taking part; Holly Smith (GBR), Harry Charles (GBR), Scott Brash (GBR) and Ben Maher (GBR).

A total of 26 combinations took part in the €25,400 Pearl Speed Stakes CSI 5*, with 13 managing to make it into the jump-off. The jump-off course looked tight and Harry Charles (GBR) went first, going clear and setting a speedy time of 36.74 seconds, a mark that would still earn them bronze honors.

He was followed by Daniel Bluman (ISR), who, whilst fast, had an unlucky four faults. Then to Holly Smith (GBR) who managed to cut the tightest of corners aboard the 11-year-old chestnut Dutch Warmblood geldgin (Zambesi x Karandasj) and set a time of just 35.52 seconds, taking the lead and holding off the competition to take the honours. From there on, the next 10 combinations – which included Great Britain’s Ben Maher (GBR) on his legendary gelding Explosion W – couldn’t catch Holly’s impeccable time, leaving the Brit to take the win, making it a day to remember!

Lillie Keenan (USA) and Fasther (Vigo d’Arsouilles Stx x Farmer) were just a bit slower, finishing second due to their time of 35.80 seconds.

Final Results – €25,400 Pearl Stakes CSI 5*

2) Lillie Keenan (USA) & Fasther – 0 / 0 – 35.80
