Thermal, California, USA – April 02, 2021 – Last month, Bertram Allen (IRL) announced the sale of Italy HDH to American rider Chandler Meadows (USA). The Irishman released the following news on his website:
Italy HDH is undoubtedly one of the most exciting youngsters and talented prospects, leaving Ballywalter Stables.
The 8-year-old gelding by Cream on Top and Numero, which recently and impressively debuted at 5* level in Wellington, showed a unique capacity already as a 6-year-old, winning the second qualifier for six-year-old horses in Lanaken with Harry Allen (IRL) in the saddle. It was also Harry who continued producing him as a 7-year-old with great success. In 2020, the duo came second twice in the 1m40 jump-off classes during the 7-year-old finals in Spain among many top results during the season.
“I really liked him. Italy was always a pleasure to work with; he is very clever and always working with you!” Harry says about the talented 8-year-old.
Bertram took over the ride in 2021 with great success. During Italy’s first week at the WEF in Florida in January, the 8-year-old gelding took both the runner-up spot in the 1m35 class, followed by another second place in the 1m40 jump-off class. He also made his debut at 5* level.
Both Bertram and Harry is enthusiastic regarding the gelding’s future:
“I was very pleased to see Italy in Wellington with Bertram jumping 1m50. I really look forward to watching him in the future. I’m sure his best days are ahead of him,” Harry says.
We are thrilled and excited to “pass on the reins” of this very exciting 8-year-old to Chandler Meadows, who is also the owner of Christy Jnr since June 2019. Chandler is based at Joie Gatlin Morley Abey Show Jumping and Gillian Knapp. We’re very much looking forward to following her journey with this promising gelding!
