Beezie Madden Wins Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award at WEF

Wellington, Florida, USA – February 21, 2021 – Beezie Madden (USA) claimed the Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award on Sunday, February 21, during week six of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.

Madden accumulated the most points of all female competitors in the $37,000 Adequan WEF Challenge Cup Round VI CSI 3* held Friday, February 19, and the $137,000 IDA Development Grand Prix CSI 3* on Sunday, February 21. The four-time Olympic medalist placed second in the WEF Challenge Cup riding Breitling LS, a 15-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding (Quintero x Acord II) owned by Abigail Wexner, and sixth in the Grand Prix with Chic Hin D Hyrencourt, a 13-year-old gelding (Tara de la Pomme x Elanville) also owned by Wexner. Both horses jumped double-clear in their respective outings.

“It’s always an honor to win this award,” said Madden, 57. “It’s great that it shows and rewards consistency through the week. I love that it focuses on the ladies, who are strong in our sport.”

Jolicoeur, accompanied by Douglas Elliman representative Sharon Loayza, presented Madden with a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, and a gift certificate for a shopping spree at Hunt, Ltd. in recognition of her title.

Of her two mounts, Madden said, “I was really happy with Breitling. I wanted to just do Friday’s class with him to make sure he was confident, and he really was excellent. This is Chic’s first outing this year in a grand prix and I couldn’t be more pleased with his performance.”

A sponsor and dedicated supporter of horse sport at WEF for many years, 2021 marks Jolicoeur’s 11th season presenting the Leading Lady Rider Award. She began presenting the award in 2010 as a way of recognizing female accomplishments in an Olympic sport where men and women compete as equals. A former competitor herself, Jolicoeur enjoyed a successful international show jumping career before becoming Florida’s number one Douglas Elliman real estate broker.

The Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, given in memory of fellow realtor and horseman Dale Lawler, is presented weekly to the high-score female rider based on performances in the weekly WEF Challenge Cup series and grand prix events. During the final week of WEF, the Martha Jolicoeur Overall Leading Lady Rider Award will be presented to the female rider who accumulates the most points throughout the season. Madden joins Erynn Ballard and Tiffany Foster, both of Canada, and American competitors Adrienne Sternlicht, Laura Kraut, and Lucy Deslauriers in claiming the Leading Lady title so far in 2021.
